Miguel Rentería, PhD

Biography

I am a human genetics researcher based in Australia. My lab is at the intersection of genetics, neuroscience and data science. My main research area is genomics and Parkinson’s disease. I am particularly interested in understanding complex traits and turning data into insights that help improve health and care. I enjoy collaborating, mentoring others, and bringing together ideas from different fields. I established and lead the Australian Parkinson’s Genetics Study (APGS), a national initiative that has recruited more than 21,000 participants, including over 12,000 people with Parkinson’s disease.

I have lived and worked in different countries (Mexico, Australia, the UK, the USA and Singapore), which gives me a global and cross-cultural perspective on research and partnership building. I like working with diverse teams, helping early-career researchers, and joining projects that aim for both scientific quality and real-world impact. With GP2, I am excited to connect with colleagues worldwide, learn from others, and help build a more collaborative and inclusive Parkinson’s research community.

I am always happy to connect with others interested in joint projects and collaborative research.
