Ziv Gan-Or, MD, PhD
Biography
Dr. Ziv Gan-Or completed his MD and PhD at Tel-Aviv University, with a major interest in lysosomal related genes and their role in the pathogenesis and progression of Parkinson’s Disease. In his lab at the Neuro, Dr. Gan-Or and his team use advanced genomic, computational and bioinformatic methods to further study the genetic background of Parkinson’s Disease and similar disorders. Dr. Gan-Or’s lab has a special interest in the genetics of REM sleep behavior disorder (RBD), and leading the RBD Genomics Consortium, with the world’s largest cohort of RBD patients. Individuals who suffer from RBD will most likely develop a neurodegenerative disease in the future: either Parkinson’s Disease, dementia with Lewy bodies or multiple system atrophy. By identifying the genetic background of RBD and by understanding how this genetic background affects the conversion from RBD to one of these neurodegenerative disorders, Dr. Gan-Or aims to identify novel pathways and mechanisms that may help developing treatment. The lab collaborates with >50 collaborators worldwide, and offers a unique, supportive and stimulating environment for trainees.
