GP2 Bioinformatics Training Workshop: Mexico

We are inviting clinicians, scientists and researchers to apply to attend the GP2 Bioinformatics Training Workshop taking place in Queretaro, Mexico on January 30-31, 2023. This 2-day workshop is primarily intended for investigators interested in Parkinson’s disease genetics who are actively engaged in Parkinson’s disease research or clinical practice with basic skills on bioinformatics. It will be delivered in person in Spanish only. There is no option to join virtually.

Completion of this training workshop will provide major insights into the data from GP2, how to explore raw and imputed genotype data, as well as the clinical data. In addition, it will give investigators the opportunity to gain data analysis skills. They will be introduced to the Terra platform, a cloud-based platform for data analysis, and taught how to access, upload and manage data, pipeline and interactive analyses using Jupyter notebooks.

About GP2

The Global Parkinson’s Genetics Program(GP2) is an ambitious project supported by the Aligning Science Across Parkinson’s (ASAP) initiative and executed in partnership with the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Disease Research. GP2 aims to:

  • Expand understanding of the genetic architecture of PD through large genotyping and sequencing efforts in more than 150,000 individuals around the world.
  • Create infrastructure to accelerate the discovery of novel disease-causing mutations.
  • Democratize efforts, with significant focus on training, to create a global generation of scientists and provide opportunities for groups that are traditionally under-represented in research.

This collaborative effort will dramatically accelerate the identification of genetic contributors to disease and establish a network of researchers who can best leverage this understanding to research, diagnose, and treat PD worldwide. To find out more, explore gp2.org.

Requirements

Applicants must meet the following specifications.

  • Completion (strongly encouraged) of a course on the GP2 Learning Platform at gp2.org/training/ by December 2, 2022.
    • We encourage trainees to complete at least one of the following courses: Using Terra to Access Data & Perform Analysis, Beginner Bioinformatics for Parkinson’s Disease Genetics, Intermediate Bioinformatics for Parkinson’s disease Genetics, and GP2 Bioinformatics Training Workshop.
  • Clear interest in developing understanding of Parkinson’s disease genetics.
  • Background in bioinformatics with a vision to conduct research on Parkinson’s disease genetics.
  • Computer literate.
  • Committed to collaborative work, locally and globally.
