Biography
Sana Hrir holds a Master’s degree in Genetics and Immunology from the University of Tunis El Manar, Tunisia. With a strong foundation in molecular and cellular biology, she previously conducted research at the Pasteur Institute of Tunis, where she focused on neuro-immunological disorders.
Ms. Hrir has recently joined the “Integrative Omics Approaches in Parkinson’s Disease” research group at the Institute of Neurogenetics. She is pursuing a joint PhD under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Joanne Trinh and co-supervision of Prof. Dr. Christine Klein, in collaboration with Prof. Dr. Samia Ben Sassi—a leading neurologist and Associate Professor at the Mongi Ben Hamida National Institute of Neurology in Tunisia.
As a GP2 trainee, Sana contributes to the Global Parkinson’s Genetics Program. Her doctoral research investigates rare pathogenic variants linked to Parkinson’s disease in North African populations, with a special emphasis on familial and early-onset cases in Tunisia. Her work aims to identify novel genes and mutations and to deepen our understanding of the genetic landscape of Parkinson’s disease in the region, using cutting-edge genomic technologies.
