Biography

Samson Khachatryan is a Deputy Director for Science at National Institute of Health, Armenia; Chairman of the Department of Neurology and Neurosurgery at National Institute of Health, Armenia; Founder and Director of “Somnus” Neurology Clinic with Sleep and Movement Disorders Centers.

Education and Experience: Dr. Samson Khachatryan obtained a MD from the faculty of General Medicine in Heratsi Yerevan State Medical University (YSMU) in 2002, completed his residency in the Department of Neurology of the YSMU, including the Republic Epilepsy Center of “Erebouni” Medical Center in 2005 and obtained a PhD from the Department of Neurology of the YSMU and ARECE in 2008 on the topic of “Quantitative assessment of health-related quality of life in patients with epilepsy”. Dr. Khachatryan has served as an expert in neurology and sleep medicine for the Ministry of Health of Armenia. He conducted doctoral (DMSc) research study on interaction of sleep disorders and epilepsy, also being involved in other research collaborations while chairing the Department of Neurology and Neurosurgery at the National Institute of Health. In particular, he is mentoring a PhD project on the role of non-motor symptoms of Parkinson disease in health-related quality of life, is involved in ENIGMA-PD project, various other projects on epilepsy, sleep disorders, dementia.

Achievements: Dr. Khachatryan is involved in the Executive Committee of the Assembly of National Sleep Societies (ANSS) and its representative to the European Sleep Research Society’s Executive Board. He is a member-at-large of the Executive Committee of the European Restless Legs Syndrome Study Group has a professional membership in the European Academy of Neurology, American Academy of Neurology, International REM Behavior Disorder Study Group, International Restless Legs Syndrome Study Group, he is the founding president of the Armenian Sleep Disorders Association, one of the founding members of the Armenian Movement Disorders Group, as well as holds memberships in several other professional associations. Dr. Khachatryan does editorial, and review works.
