Biography
Graduated from University of Ioannina Medical School, Greece and then Worked in the Dept of pharmacology to finish his doctoral thesis on “Neuropharmacology and Functional Anatomy of Basal Ganglia”. He completed his residency training in neurology at the University Hospital of Ioannina, Greece, and in 1996 started postdoctoral fellowship at the Experimental Therapeutics Branch, National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke, NIH, Maryland, USA. He participated in clinical research focusing in experimental therapeutics in Parkinson’s Disease, as well as laboratory research with parkinsonian primates. In 2000 he returned to Greece as Lecturer in Neurology, University of Ioannina Medical School where he is currently Professor of Neurology and director of Neurology Clinic of the University Hospital of Ioannina. He is running the outpatient clinic for movement disorders and other neurodegenerative diseases, and is the Head of Parkinson’s Disease and Related Disorders Centre.
Since Seprember 2022 he is the Dean of Medical School of the University of Ioannina.
He is involved in research projects funded by National and European funds and has published more than 100 papers both on clinical and laboratory studies. He is lecturing extensively on issues related to Parkinson’s disease and Neurodegenerative Diseases.
