Biography
Dr Monica Gagliardi graduated in Experimental and Applied Biology, biomolecular and genetic path, from the University of Pavia in 2010, discussing an experimental thesis in entitled “Advanced paternal age and imbalances structural chromosomal”. She earned a PhD in from the University Magna Graecia of Catanzaro, in February 2015, discussing a thesis entitled “The Genetics of Neurodegeneration with Brain Iron Accumulation (NBIA)”, part of her doctoral research activities has been carried out at the Erasmus MC in Rotterdam, Netherland, within the Clinical Genetics Department. Dr Monica Gagliardi is currently co-author of 55 scientific papers in international journals, and she has an H-index value of 13. From 19 October 2022 to today, she is Assistant Professor (S.C. 06/N1, SSD MED/50) at the Department of Medical and Surgical Sciences of the Magna Graecia University of Catanzaro. In 2022, she obtained the “National Scientific Qualification” for Associate Professor in SC 06/N1. The research activity is currently based on the genetic study of some Neurological and Neurodegenerative diseases, mainly from the molecular analysis of the genes involved in the recessive and dominant hereditary forms of Parkinson’s disease and parkinsonisms. Study of the main genes involved in Epileptic Encephalopathies through the use of Ion Torrent and SE (NGS) platforms; and analysis of the genes responsible for Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis. Technical skills in the field of Molecular Genetics such as Polymerase Chain Reaction – PCR, Real-Time PCR, Gene Mapper, MLPA, Sequencing, Methylation, Restriction Enzyme Digestion, Next Generation Sequencing.
