H. Mauricio Chaparro Solano, MD,MSc
Biography
H. Mauricio Chaparro-Solano is a Molecular Medicine PhD candidate at the Cleveland Clinic and a current Fulbright scholar. He obtained his medical degree (MD) from Universidad del Rosario in Colombia, where he also earned a master’s degree in human genetics and worked for several years as a professor and researcher. Additionally, he has clinical experience in the diagnosis, genetic counseling, and treatment of hereditary and genetic conditions.
In 2023, he joined the GP2 trainee network and has contributed his expertise in genetic variant prioritization and interpretation through in-person workshops and online learning materials. During his PhD, he is working at the Mata Lab at the Cleveland Clinic to understand how genetics influences the variability in treatment responses for Parkinson’s disease. His research utilizes data science and machine-learning approaches, with a special focus on underrepresented populations, especially Latinos.
