Biography

Dr. Chmiela is currently a Research Fellow in the Department of Neurology at the Mayo Clinic Florida. He graduated from the Medical University of Silesia in Katowice, Poland. He completed his residency at the K. Gibiński University Clinical Center in Katowice, Poland in 2023 and is a board-certified neurologist in Poland. Since 2021, he is also a researcher at the Department of Neurology at the Medical University of Silesia in Katowice, Faculty of Medical Sciences. He is a member of the Polish Society of Neurology and the Polish Society of Extrapyramidal Disorders. His scientific interests include neurodegenerative diseases, the role of metabolic disorders in neurodegeneration, and neurogenetics. He is also the author of several book chapters and papers published in peer-reviewed journals. He is the co-author of the educational software “Virtual Clinic” intended for medical students and doctors, a solution using artificial intelligence algorithms in teaching medical interviewing, diagnosis and treatment planning. In his clinical practice, he works with neurologic patients, with strong emphasis on neurodegenerative disorders. He is actively involved in process of introducing newly approved neurological medications into the clinical practice in Poland. He also has experience in clinical trials concerning Parkinson’s disease, multiple system atrophy, frontotemporal dementia, and migraine.
