Biografía
Dr. Merve Aktan Süzgün is a board-certified neurologist and somnologist who received her degrees from Istanbul University-Cerrahpaşa, Cerrahpaşa Faculty of Medicine, Department of Neurology, Turkey. She is currently continuing her PhD in Neuroscience at the Medical University of Innsbruck, Department of Neurology, Sleep Disorders Clinic, Austria and works as a research assistant at the same clinic. Also, she is a past research fellow at Bern University Hospital, Inselspital, Sleep-Wake-Epilepsy Center, Switzerland within the scope of Swiss Primary Hypersomnolence and Narcolepsy Cohort Study and still works as an external researcher in this project.
Dr. Aktan Süzgün is an active member of several national and international societies in neurology and sleep medicine, notably the European Academy of Neurology, the World Sleep Society, the European Sleep Research Society and the International REM Sleep Behaviour Disorder (RBD) Study Group. She publishes various clinically-based original articles and case presentations in diverse areas of neurology and sleep medicine.
Her main research interests are prodromal stages of RBD and progression and also phenoconversion biomarkers of RBD to alpha-synucleinopathies. In addition, she is conducting research on secondary RBD and its pathophysiology, particularly in central disorders of hypersomnolence.
