Ernest Nwazor is a Consultant Neurologist/Senior Lecturer at the Faculty of Clinical Sciences, Rivers State University, Port Harcourt, Nigeria.
I have a deep interest movement disorders and other neurodegenerative disorders. I am currently collaborating in Parkinson’s genetic research both locally and internationally under the leadership of
Professor Njideka who also is championing the Nigeria Parkinson Disease Registry, which is an ongoing project.
In the nearest future, I plan to set up a movement disorder clinic in my hospital where patients with these conditions can easily access care in a dedicated facility.
As part of my future career growth plan, I hope to pursue further subspecialty training in Parkinsonism and dytonias in a comprehensive movement centre abroad.
Skills acquired will hopefully translate to improved care in patients with movements disorders.
Finally, I am open to research collaborations with colleagues with similar interests from other parts of the globe. Practising in one of the underserved areas of the globe with a huge gap in both personnel and infrastructures in movement disorder practice is a big challenge but I personally believe there is a lot happening here in the field that might be of interest to the global community. So,the time to explore the unknown is right now and Africa cannot afford to be left behind.
