Since 2021, Rezzak Yilmaz has been serving as an Associate Professor in the Department of Neurology at Ankara University School of Medicine and at the Ankara University Brain Research Center. After completing his neurology residency, he spent five years in Germany — first at the Hertie Institute for Clinical Brain Research, University of Tübingen, and later at the Department of Neurology, Christian‑Albrechts‑University of Kiel—under the mentorship of Prof. Daniela Berg. In  2020, he made a deliberate decision to return to Turkey to advance Parkinson’s disease (PD) research in his home country. His work focuses on identifying biomarkers, genetic subtypes, and environmental contributors to PD. Most recently, he reported the prevalence and spectrum of GBA1 variants in a large Turkish PD cohort. He also established ANkara PArkinson Registry (ANPAR), with the aim of collecting longitudinal data for genetic, clinical and biomarker studies. He is currently leading or collaborating in the following research projects:

• Cerebrospinal fluid seed‑amplification assays in PD
• Detection of synucleinopathies via serum neuronal exosomes
• Pesticide exposure and GBA1 interaction in PD penetrance
• Pesticide effects in midbrain organoid models
• Acoustic speech analysis in PD
• Sebum metabolomics in GBA1‑PD patients
