Dr. Khosbayar Tulgaa — Clinical Pathologist and Molecular Epidemiologist

I am a Mongolian clinical pathologist and associate professor with over two decades of experience in molecular diagnostics, clinical microbiology, and health systems strengthening. Currently, I serve as an associate professor in the Department of Clinical Laboratory at the Mongolian National University of Medical Sciences (MNUMS), where I supervise the Clinical Molecular Diagnostic Center.

My academic credentials include an MSc in Microbiology, a Ph.D. in Molecular Biology, and a postdoctoral fellowship at Yonsei University, along with advanced training in clinical laboratory practices, molecular diagnosis, bacteriology, and infection control in France, Korea, and Mongolia.

Highlights and Achievements:
– Principal investigator and contributor to over 25 major research projects funded by organizations such as WHO, ADB, NIH, and the Global Fund, among others.
– Published author in numerous peer-reviewed journals, including “Infection and Drug Resistance”, “Journal of the Formosan Medical Association”, and “Papillomavirus Research”.
– Serves as a national consultant on antimicrobial resistance (AMR), infectious diseases, immunization, and clinical microbiology for the Ministry of Health, WHO, and ADB.
– Recognized as the Young Ambassador to Mongolia by the American Society for Microbiology from 2013 to 2016.
– Member of the editorial board for several scientific journals and contributor to national health policies, including responses to COVID-19, tuberculosis training, and diagnostic laboratory standardization and accreditation.
– Played a leading role in international collaborative studies on genetics related to complex diseases, antimicrobial resistance, HPV, hepatitis, sexually transmitted infections (STIs), and cancer biomarkers.

My leadership integrates scientific rigor, public health advocacy, and education, significantly contributing to Mongolia’s biomedical research and diagnostic landscape.
