Kishore Raj Kumar, MBBS, PhD, FRACP

Kishore completed his medical degree at the University of Adelaide and attained accreditation in Neurology from the Royal Australasian College of Physicians. He undertook his PhD studies into the genetics of movement disorders with Prof. Carolyn Sue (Kolling Institute of Medical Research) and Prof. Christine Klein (Luebeck University, Germany). He then completed an NHMRC Early Career Fellowship at the Kinghorn Centre for Clinical Genomics (KCCG), Garvan Institute of Medical Research. His recent research focused on using whole genome sequencing for the diagnosis of neurological disorders, allowing him to develop skills interpreting research genomic data. He has over 50 journal and book publications, has presented at many national and international meetings and is on the editorial board of the journal Movement Disorders. He was Councillor/Chair for the Movement Disorder Society of Australia and New Zealand (NSW Branch) and is on the MDS-AOS Education Committee. He is currently a staff specialist at the Molecular Medicine Laboratory and Neurology Department at Concord Hospital and a visiting scientist at the Garvan Institute, with ongoing research projects into Parkinson’s disease, dystonia, hereditary spastic paraplegia, ataxia, muscle disorders and Charcot-Marie Tooth disease.
